Are you ready for Queensland’s $27.5 billion transport infrastructure spend?

Updated on September 27th, 2022

Queensland’s 2021-22 Budget includes a massive $27.5 billion, four-year road and transport investment plan. Queensland Transport and Main Roads Minister, Mark Bailey stated, “since the beginning of 2020, we’ve injected an extra $1.3 billion into the economy to accelerate almost 200 road and transport projects and support jobs when they were needed”.
Road safety remains a priority for the State, with 120 lives already lost on the roads this year. “The budget is committing $1.6 billion to prioritise safety upgrades like better rest facilities, new road barriers, extra street lighting and overtaking lanes, audio line-marking and wide centreline treatments on high-risk roads across the state”, said Mr Bailey.
In terms of rail infrastructure, the budget will further work on the Cross River Rail as well as start the build of the light rail to Burleigh. The State Government is also committed to delivering reliable and affordable power to Queenslanders with $2 billion in the budget assigned to renewable energy projects and network upgrades.
The budget also aligns with the Building our Regions program which focuses on water infrastructure. In the highly successful program, Regional councils are able to bid for $70 million in funding over the course of 3 years, improving their water and sewerage systems in their local council area.
